This year’s Pebble Beach week was excellent: good friends, good food, a string of patently obnoxious (albeit enjoyable) parties, exciting bidding action at the auctions, a beautiful Concours event and a head-turning, fun to drive chariot to ferry us between each. This year we decided to drive our 1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Speciale up to Carmel and it turned out to be the perfect additional travel companion. Ceaselessly reliable on the 500 mile plus jaunt, we had a blast winding our way up Highway 1 through Big Sur, blowing by a bevy of broken down classics on the way. Once there, the Alfa got all sorts of attention. It was parked half a block off of Ocean Ave. during the Concours on the Avenue event (a laid back but significant show that runs all the way up and down Carmel’s main thoroughfare and coincides with the cars returning from the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance) and we sat at a cafe for brunch watching both the public and press straying from the actual event to admire and photograph the SS. It’s an undeniably unique model and we were sad to see it leave the collection last week, although we know its new owner in New Hampshire will continue to treat it with consummate respect. And it will always remain a memorable car for us, thanks in no small part to our linking it with the memories created this past August during Monterey Auto Week. But if memory fails us, we were sure to take tons of pictures, and we thought we’d share a few of them with you below.
