    Description

Offered for sale is the true definition of a head-turner, a 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham with a hand-built body by Fleetwood. With only 304 examples produced, these cars are exceedingly rare and they have amazing ahead-of-their-time styling cues to along with a preponderance of technological innovations of the day. Most notable amongst these was the unique suicide-door pillarless-hardtop body, however the distinctive brushed stainless-steel roof, quad headlights, dual exhausts, Autronic-Eye headlight dimmer and six-way power front seat are also worth noting. According to records from the Brougham Owner’s Association, this car (body #614) was originally finished in the livery it wears today, a gorgeous metallic “Copenhagen Blue” with “Blue Bayou” patterned cloth and medium blue leather panel trim.

The recipient of an extensive restoration completed in 2003 by experienced Brougham collector Joe Rubert (of Memphis, Tennessee), the car has since been exceedingly well looked after and maintained, explaining the wonderful condition in which it currently remains. The Copenhagen Blue finish is stunning with only the most minimal of imperfections, none of which were substantial enough to appear in any of the pictures. All of the chrome is excellent, as is the glass and rubber. The interior is equally as clean, with perfect cloth and supple leather seats and panels, impeccable carpeting and a flawless headliner. The glove box retains its vanity, including mirror and makeup kit, tissue box, shot glasses and accessories. The gorgeous chrome spoke wheels are wrapped in US Royal white wall tires with plenty of remaining tread.

The 365 CID OHV V-8 engine fires effortlessly and idles consistently, producing 335 BHP with its Triple Rochester 2-Barrell Carburetors, plenty to comfortably power the Eldorado down the highway. The entire engine compartment has been thoroughly finished and detailed and it looks absolutely spotless. The 3-Speed Hyrda-matic automatic transmission shifts smoothly and Mr. Rupert replaced the unreliable original air suspension with a coil spring configuration that provides an even and effortless ride quality. The car is a joy to drive, but not selfishly. It’s fantastic from behind the wheel, but passengers, pedestrians and motorists all constantly enjoy the car and it never ceases to get smiles, waves, and thumbs ups wherever it goes.

This is a gorgeous example of the most desirable of the early Eldorados, Cadillac’s renowned “prestige” car. It would make a wonderful addition to any significant collection of iconic American cars.
