    Description

Offered for sale is an exceptionally clean, mechanically strong, numbers matching and entirely solid 1961 Jaguar Mark II 3.8L. Finished in ever-appropriate and attractive British Racing Green over a green Connolly leather interior, this striking example has had only two owners, the tenure of the most recent lasting more than three decades. Retaining its original, best-of-breed 3.8L engine and original Borg-Warner automatic transmission, this very original, beautifully presented California example has always been properly garaged and suitably maintained, needing nothing but to be driven and enjoyed.

Never in an accident and exceedingly straight, the car’s original body is in excellent condition, retaining consistent and correct panel fits and gaps and cloaked in its correct British Racing Green, most recently professionally refinished to a very high standard in the mid 1990s. Indicative of its well-cared-for, limited “weekend driver” use by the second owner, the finish has held up beautifully, marred only by the most minor of imperfections, none of which are significant enough to appear in any of the pictures or compromise the car’s considerable appeal. All of the glass and chrome is original to the car and in excellent condition and the knock off wire wheels are flawless and wrapped in brand new radial tires.

The car’s interior is equally as clean and extremely original. Finished in wonderfully era-specific and complimentary green, the front seats have been professionally rebuilt and reupholstered in factory correct Connolly leather and the rear seats, carpets and interior panels are entirely original and in excellent condition. The wood dash, door trim and tray tables are also in excellent original condition, the gorgeous polished walnut veneer dash housing a fully functional row of gauges and toggle switches.

The car is also excellent mechanically, the desirable, numbers matching 3.8L DOHC engine with twin SU HD6 carburetors starting effortlessly, idling consistently and pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the original Borg-Warner transmission’s gears. Per the long-term previous owner, the odometer’s exhibited 18k miles is representative of a low 118k miles, with the original engine and transmission having been rebuilt at roughly 100k miles. The ride quality is excellent and exceptionally comfortable, the car handling with sporting prowess and driving and stopping straight and responsively, its four-wheel Dunlop disc brakes functioning flawlessly.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a beautiful, solid, numbers matching, well-cared-for and mechanically sound California example of the venerable Mark II Saloon. One of the most beautiful sedans ever built and one of the first performance oriented “driver’s” saloons, the 3.8L Mark II will always demand the attention of enthusiasts and collectors alike, resulting in steady appreciation. If you’re in the market for an honest, untainted Mark II, this striking example deserves your serious consideration.
