Set apart from its more ubiquitous elder siblings by the distinctive recessed grill and horizontal tail lights, the MGA MK II is one of the most desirable models MG ever produced, the perfect entry level sports car, both in terms of enjoyment and the opportunity for investment upside. The recipient of a restoration in 2002, this car has been exceptionally well-cared for by its enthusiast owner, yielding the lovely example you see here today.
The gorgeous Dark Red finish is deep and lustrous, entirely consistent and marred only by the most negligible of imperfections, none of which appear in the pictures or detract from the car’s considerable appeal. The body is entirely straight, retaining consistent panel fits and gaps throughout, and all of the bright work and glass is excellent. The original steel wheels with chrome hubcaps are wrapped in correct Michelin radial tires with plenty of remaining tread. The original frame and undercarriage is clean, correct entirely solid, evidencing a car that was never subjected to the elements.
Also addressed during the restoration, the car’s interior is in excellent condition, the black seats, interior panels and carpeting showing negligible wear. The 75k miles showing on the odometer are believed to be original and the dual SU carburetors function beautifully with strong and even compression across all cylinders. Ride quality is excellent and the car drives and brakes straight and true. MGA 1600s are wonderful road cars and this car is no exception, offering plenty of power, handling nimbly and offering a visceral yet comfortable experience from behind the wheel.
