    Description

Offered for sale is a beautiful, extremely original, entirely solid and mechanically strong 4-speed Mercedes-Benz 230SL, that retains its original fenders (including the telltale factory spotwelds and headlamp notches) and its solid, completely original undercarriage. A Southern California car that has always been well looked after and used principally as a weekend cruiser, this Pagoda is finished in rare and factory correct two tone White (DB 050) with a Black (DB 040) hard top and hub caps over a red interior, a crisp livery that somehow manages to be all at once timeless while wonderfully era specific. If you’re in the market for an unmolested, original W113 this car absolutely deserves your serious consideration.

The car’s body is entirely straight, with consistent and correct panel fits and gaps throughout, and while the finish has a number of minor imperfections, the car remains abundantly presentable – the ideal original weekend driver for the enthusiast or collector. The car shows absolutely no evidence of ever having been in an accident, retaining its original fenders, numbers matching hood with no bondo or other inconsistencies to the body. The car also retains all of its original glass and the chrome is in excellent original condition, free of any dings, dents or significant imperfections. Hardly ever used throughout the years, the hardtop (including the headliner) is in great shape and the color-matched, hubcapped wheels retain their chrome beauty rings and are wrapped in Michelin tires with plenty of remaining tread.

The car’s red interior perfectly offsets the black and white exterior, adding just enough sex appeal to an otherwise understated livery. The resilient original MB Tex seats show only minor imperfections and the carpets have been recently professionally replaced using the correct German square weave material. The door panels and other interior panels are in excellent original condition, as is the original wood trim, and the dash houses an original Becker Europa TR radio. Lastly, a brand new black German canvas soft top has been installed (including the original early W113 SL chrome trim) and it functions flawlessly.

The car is also mechanically excellent following a thorough servicing by our German master mechanic, which included a head gasket replacement (including the corresponding intake, exhaust and valve cover gaskets, as well as a valve timing adjustment), a steering coupler, motor mounts, a rear brake rebuild, new battery and a comprehensive tune-up. The engine starts effortlessly, idles consistently and pulls strongly and smoothly through each of the gears. Compression is strong and even across all cylinders, providing power sufficient for modern highway driving, and the car’s road manners are exceptional, handling crisply and driving and braking straight and true. The engine bay is clean and correct, as is the car’s entirely original and solid undercarriage and trunk.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a gorgeous example that has everything going for it: beautiful and unique original color combination, strong mechanicals and most importantly, an entirely original and solid undercarriage and completely straight, original body. Whether for the weekend enthusiast or the seasoned collector, this stunning W113 Pagoda 230SL is sure to provide its next owner with years of motoring joy and investment upside.
