    Description

Offered for sale is a remarkably original and completely solid example of a 1966 Jaguar 3.8S Saloon. Conceived and built as a more luxurious and technologically advanced variant of the popular Mark 2, the S-Type has subtle styling cues that make it truly elegant, both standing still or cruising down the road. The car also had the widely acclaimed Jaguar independent rear suspension which made ride quality and handling fantastic despite the car’s weight. More comfortable and larger than a Mark 2 but not nearly as cumbersome as the hulking MK X, the 3.8S was truly the definition of a gentleman’s saloon in the 1960s, especially with a 4-speed manual transmission and overdrive.

Finished in Opalescent Gunmetal over black leather, the car presents clealy. Repainted by the prior owner a couple of years ago, the finish is marred only by minimal imperfections (rock chips, some minor cracking, and the like). Without any evidence of accidents or body work, the car is extremely straight, all of the panel fits and gaps remaining uniform and original. The brightwork is in incredible original condition, the glass is flawless and the original wheels and hubs are in good shape. The car’s interior is equally as clean. The leather seats have been replaced using correct Jaguar leather and they are completely flawless. The original wood is in truly excellent condition throughout, free of cracking or warping, and the original carpets and interior panels show only the wear one would assume of a well-kept, 45 year old Jaguar. The trunk is original, complete with vinyl cover, tool kit and spare tire.

The prior owner was an aircraft mechanic and he always kept the car in running condition, garaged and in a dry environment. As such, the car’s undercarriage is completely original and solid – something we rarely find in ‘60s Jaguars. The 3.8L engine starts without any hesitation, idles consistently and has excellent compression. The car could use a tune-up, but is running and drivable as is. The overdrive works without fault and all of the lights and gauges are functional.

If you’re looking for a solid, beautiful vintage Jaguar saloon, this car deserves your serious consideration. Great color combination, numbers matching, desirable 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive and a completely solid undercarriage and accident free history. As these models follow the appreciation curve of the Mark 2s, this 3.8S has all the right things going for it and only needs its next owner to take it to the next level.
