    Description

Proudly being offered for sale is a gorgeous little 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230SL Pagoda. Having been originally purchased from Beverly Hills Mercedes, this incredibly original, all numbers matching, entirely rust free, 4-speed manual, rare color-schemed California example is one of the finest W113 SLs we have seen and driven in quite some time. From the body to the interior and throughout the mechanicals, this car is strong, correct, and incredibly well presented and preserved.

The paint and body are striking, finished in correct factory DB335 H Blue paint. Each panel fits correctly with even gaps and straight lines. The paint finish is deep and consistent, showing only the most minor of imperfections, unnoticeable in any of the pictures. With the exception of two soft impressions in the grill, the bright work is excellent, the white wall tires are fresh, and the German canvas soft top is perfect with a clear rear window. The underside of the car and trunk are rust free and could not be stronger. We intended on including undercarriage pictures but our warehouse is currently blocked by road construction, so we’ll have to wait to photograph it on a lift later in the week. That said, I assure you that the undercarriage is completely solid and rust free and if you call or email us we’ll send you undercarriage pictures as soon as we have them.

The original factory hardtop fits nicely and is in great shape with a flawless headliner. The interior on this example is equally as strong as the body and exterior. The seats, door panels, and dash are near perfect and the correct German square weave carpeting is excellent. The wood dash accents are in excellent condition, all interior chrome is gorgeous and although the car’s radio was upgraded years after its original sale, we have the original Becker Europa radio and it will be included with the purchase of the car.

Mechanically the car is excellent. With the blessing of our German Master mechanic who has serviced the car, we can assure the next proud owner that they will be more than satisfied with its performance. The original motor is as strong running as the day it left the factory. Its original 4-speed gearbox shifts effortlessly between each gear, pulling strongly without any hesitation or grinding. The car always fires right up, idling smoothly and consistently. 230SLs – especially 4-speed manual examples – feel sportier than any other W113. This car is no exception and whether winding through the canyons or cruising down the highway, the car is a joy to drive.

We have owned some of the greatest pre and post war cars that you can buy, but I can honestly tell you that very few receive such an enthusiastically positive response from onlookers, friends and family than we this little 230SL. The car just feels right and has everything going for it: manual transmission, rare and desirable color combination, completely rust-free, beautiful cosmetically and fantastic mechanically.
