    Description

Offered for sale is a beautiful, well-loved, rust-free European model 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230SL finished in timelessly elegant and era-specific Blue Grey (Paint Code DB 162) over a red interior. The second owner purchased the car from the authorized Mercedes dealer in Brussels, Belgium while vacationing with his family in 1981. At that time the car had just undergone a professional restoration and respray in the original color by the Mercedes dealership in Waterloo, Belgium. He imported the car to his home in California and then subsequently moved to Austin, Texas, where the car has called home since. During his ownership, he had the engine completely rebuilt (in 1991) and always kept the car maintained and garaged, using it as a weekend driver until 2002, at which point he sold it to its third owner, who also lived in Austin and also treated the car like a garage queen.

The result of their careful ownership is a beautifully preserved, charming little W113 Pagoda. The car’s finish retains gorgeous depth and luster and is marred only by the most insignificant of imperfections, none of which detract from the car’s overall appeal or even appear in any of the pictures. The body is straight and rust-free with excellent panel fits and gaps and all of the chrome is in great original condition. The car comes with its original, hardly used hardtop as well as a soft top (which is also in great shape), and the wheels are wrapped in tires with plenty of remaining tread. The car’s interior is equally as clean, the seats and interior panels a rich, deep red and free of any significant imperfections. The carpets are clean and free of fading or noticeable wear and the car retains its original Becker radio, tool kit and spare tire. Please note: the original ash tray in the center console was looking a bit tatty, so we’ve ordered another one which will be installed as soon as it arrives.

The car’s original, matching numbers engine starts without hesitation and idles consistently, producing the W113’s trademark warbling tone. The car shifts and accelerates smoothly, brakes straight and is a true pleasure to drive, whether tooling through town or cruising down the highway. Benefitting from its careful, long, dry Texas ownership, the car’s undercarriage is solid and free of rust and the car comes with a thick binder full of documentation and service receipts.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a gorgeous, correct W113 Pagoda SL with all the right things going for it: desirable color combination, matching numbers, rust-free, and mechanically sound with known history. With the W113 market remaining strong and appreciation a guarantee, this is a wonderful investment grade weekend driver offered at a fair price. I’m sure the same pride that its prior owners had for the car will extend to its next owner for many years ahead.
