    Description

Offered for sale is an absolutely stunning, numbers matching, rust-free 1967 Austin Healey 3000 MKIII BJ8 finished in aggressively striking Colorado Red with Black coves to accentuate the already gutty 3000 styling. The car comes with its British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate (confirming its colors and numbers matching status), as well as a receipt from marque experts British Sports Cars in nearby San Luis Obispo for more than $18,000 in parts and labor in May of this year.

The car’s finish is in excellent condition, deep, lustrous and marred only by exceedingly minor imperfections, none of which are significant enough to appear in any of the pictures. The body is completely straight without any dings or evidence of accident repair and all of the panel fits and gaps are very good. The car’s brightwork is in flawless condition, as is the glass and rubber. The brand new 72-spoke knock-off chrome wire wheels are wrapped in nearly new tires. The car’s interior has been professionally reupholstered with flawless, brand new leather seats (and armrest), new vinyl door cards and interior panels, brand new carpet kit, and a new trunk lining. The car also has a brand new black canvas soft top and brand new full canvas tonneau cover, as well as a near perfect original vinyl boot cover. The car’s wood dash inserts are absolutely flawless and the car is fitted with a brand new 15” wood steering wheel, but also comes with a second, larger wood steering wheel, also in beautiful condition. Additionally, the owner’s manual, shop manual, original spare wheel and tire and all of the changing tools are also included in the car.

The car is free of corrosion in both the body and the undercarriage and it is in superior mechanical condition. Starting without any hesitation or smoke, the original numbers matching engine idles consistently and pulls with grin-inducing BJ8 force. Compression is strong and even across all cylinders and the car shows absolutely no proclivity for overheating. The car shifts smoothly through each of its gears without any grinding or slipping, overdrive works flawlessly and the car drives and brakes straight, handling nimbly. It’s a joy to drive, a visceral rush both roaring through the canyons and cruising down the highway.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a wonderful appreciating classic with all the right things going for it: rust-free, numbers matching, mechanically strong and beautifully finished in a striking color combination. With “Big Healey” auction results routinely fetching sales prices nearing and often surpassing six figures, they represent a unique segment of the classic car market: highly collectible with good appreciation potential, but with strong #2 drivers still priced somewhat accessibly so that you can actually enjoy driving them. And that’s a good thing, because they are far too fun from behind the wheel to relegate them to garages or trailers on the way to shows. This car is no exception, undoubtedly providing its next owner with countless enjoyable driving experiences in an asset that will only increase in value over time.
