Offered for sale is what is arguably the finest TR4A on the market, a 1967 Triumph TR4A IRS roadster finished in Triumph Racing Green over a beautiful black interior with a flawless matching soft top. The TR4A was an evolution of the popular TR4, updated with a new chassis. The complex new independent rear suspension (hence the IRS designation) made the ride quality significantly more comfortable, however the car certainly retained its sporting prowess, placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in class at the Sebring 12-hour race of 1966.
Having only traveled 57,000 original miles, this gorgeous example was professionally restored to investment grade and is ready to be driven or shown. All aspects of the car were addressed and the car drives as well as it shows. The paint, glass, chrome and wheels are all impeccable, accenting the TR4A’s unique, athletic lines. The interior is equally excellent, with beautiful seats, interior panels and carpets. The burl wood dash face and vinyl lined top are stunning and the soft top and full tonneau cover are flawless. The car’s undercarriage is rust-free, shows no evidence of accidents as is exceptionally clean. At the auction’s start time we’d not been able to take undercarriage photographs because our lift was indisposed. The original engine starts effortlessly, idles consistently and pulls strong through each of its gears. Compression is excellent, the transmission shifts smoothly and the car drives and brakes straight. It’s an absolute joy to drive, whether tooling around town, going for a jaunt down the coast or bombing down the highway. The car comes with a spare, jack, original owner’s manual, service booklet and a stack of records.
