    Description

Offered for sale is a gorgeous, well-sorted, numbers-matching 1969 Alfa Romeo 1750 “Boat-Tail” Spider Veloce finished in desirable Verde Pino green over a black interior. With clean, contemporary lines originating from Pininfarina’s Cambiano studios, the “Duetto” (as the model was originally dubbed) was a beautiful progression from the Giulia and Giulietta Spiders of the 1950s and 60s and the last project with which Battista “Pinin” Farina was ever personally associated. A fitting send-off for a legend, the “Duetto” was a huge critical hit and it’s easy to understand why it became immediately iconic and the basis for the next three decades of Alfa Spider design.

This fantastic example has always been well looked after and maintained, evidenced by both its excellent aesthetic and mechanical condition. The interior is in excellent condition, the seats, interior panels and dash all virtually flawless. The original capet shows some patina, but is still presentable, the rubber mats are excellent and the original wood steering wheel is perfect. Outside, the car’s beautiful finish is deep and lustrous, marred only by minor imperfections (rock chips and the like), none of which are significant enough to really appear in the pictures. The body is exceptionally straight with consistent panel fits and gaps throughout and all of the glass and rubber is in great shape. The canvas soft top is brand new and the original steel wheels and hubs have been upgraded with quality Cromodora alloys wrapped in brand new Pirelli P400 tires. The trim is all intact, exceedingly presentable and exhibiting only minor imperfections, none of which detract much from the car’s overall appeal, which I can assure you is immense. Partially because of its condition, partially because of its rarity, but mostly (at least in my opinion) because of its vibrant, era specific and correct Verde Pino finish, the car constantly garners attention. Not an outing goes by without words of encouragement, thumbs ups and smiles from pedestrians and other motorists, but the biggest smile is undoubtedly on the face of whoever’s behind the wheel.

This is easily one of the tightest, most enjoyable Alfa Romeos I’ve ever driven. Set up with desirable dual Weber carburetors (considered a huge upgrade in reliability and drive quality over the shoddy SPICA injection system), the original numbers matching engine fires easily, idles consistently and pulls strongly and smoothly through each of the gears. The car drives and brakes straight and handles beautifully whether winding through the canyons or bombing down the highway. After a long jaunt up the coast I can report that the car handled itself beautifully without any indication of overheating and completely consistent performance. I’m sorry to dwell, but I can’t say enough about the car mechanically and encourage anyone interested to come and experience it for themselves. Always kept garaged and cared for by its three enthusiast owners, the car is completely solid in its body, undercarriage and trunk (additional pictures can be forwarded upon request), and the car comes with its original boot cover and a file of service receipts.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a solid, honest, beautiful and mechanically strong example of an iconic classic. With Giulia and Giulietta values skyrocketing, boat tail spiders are appreciating at a steady clip. It terms of bang for your buck and the ability to truly drive and enjoy an excellent investment, I can’t think of a better option.
