    Description

Offered for sale is an exceedingly rare 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Coupe fitted from the factory with a sunroof and a 4-Speed manual transmission. Enduringly elegant, the car gives off a impression of discriminating taste and exclusivity – it’s always parked right up front when valeted, and it’s easy to understand why. One of only 122 manual transmission 3.5 coupes ever produced, this gorgeous W111 is finished in striking Beigegrau Metallic (DB 728H) over a full green leather interior. As the picture bear witness, the car is absolutely stunning.

The paint is excellent, a rich and lustrous finish in a refined and unique metallic color and showing only the most insignificant of imperfections. All of the car’s chrome is in wonderful original condition, as is the original glass. Panel fit is great and the car’s original wheels with color-matched hubs are wrapped in brand new white wall tires. The car has been in California since 1972 and was always garaged. Consequently, the original undercarriage is free of typical rust and retains its original undercoating. The interior of the car is in equally clean condition. The leather seats show literally no wear at all and the dash, headliner and interior panels are all in excellent original shape. The dash wood has been refinished and is absolutely stunning and a Becker Europa radio comes with car (please note it was not installed in the pictures).

The car is also in very good mechanical condition, starting easily without any smoke and pulling strongly and smoothly through each of its four gears. We can’t say that we’ve driven another 3.5 manual transmission coupe, but this car is a joy to drive, whether tooling around town or cruising down the highway, either improved by the fully functional factory power sunroof. An uncommon opportunity for the Mercedes collector and weekend enthusiast alike, if you’ve been looking for a unique Heckflosse coupe this car deserves your serious consideration.
