    Description

We are offering for sale an original, two-owner from new, original floors/original undercarriage/original undercoating, rust free, numbers matching, last year of production, original fender, two top, factory air conditioning 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda. This 75,000 original mile example is finished in gorgeous and factory correct Dark Red (DB 542 Dunkelrot) over its original Cognac interior. We are rarely accustomed to seeing this type of originality and preservation in Pagoda SL underbodies. This 280SL has been under the second owner’s sympathetic care since 1982 (31 years) when he purchased the car from its original owner. We encourage all Mercedes collectors and enthusiasts alike to carefully consider this special 280SL Pagoda.

The body and exterior presents nicely. The panel fit is excellent and correct. The fenders are original and retain their original factory spot welds. The paint is deep and lustrous, showing only negligible age and imperfection. The brightwork is in great shape as is the glass and rubber trim. The car is fitted with its original soft top as shown in the photographs. The top operates properly and is not ripped or torn, but does show its age. The original interior is gorgeous and correct. The Cognac seats and door panels, the carpets, wood, headliner, etc. are all in good original condition showing appropriate and beautiful patina. The car is fitted with its correct and working Becker Europa radio. The original factory AC is also functioning. The engine compartment is very well presented. Again, the undercarriage is completely original. This is the strongest part of the car. No rust, no repairs, no unoriginal undercoating. It rare and impressive, to say the least.

This is a well maintained yet sparingly driven car. The car always fires right up without smoke, idles smoothly, and offers a tight and extremely enjoyable driving experience. The original numbers matching engine is very strong and the gearbox shifts smoothly. The car is complete with its original spare and tool roll.
