    Description

Offered for sale is a beautiful, well cared for, 31,750 original mile 1980 Mercedes-Benz 450SL finished in timeless Classic White over a black interior. R107 bodied SLs were the car to have in the 1970s and 1980s and with incredibly high build quality and iconic styling, it’s easy to understand why. It’s for those same reasons that they’ve become appreciating classic decades later, probably the last regular production Mercedes model to ever achieve collector car status. Finding well-maintained examples is becoming more and more difficult and this car represents an excellent opportunity at acquiring a beautiful low mileage roadster. Having only had two doting owners, it’s always been garaged and maintained and was always used as a weekend driver.

The car presents impeccably in Classic White (Mercedes Paint Code DB737), marred only by minor imperfections acquired during the car’s 32+ years of faithful service, each too insignificant to show up in any of the pictures. All of the panel fits are factory perfect, the glass and rubber are in excellent condition and the chrome is gorgeous. The aluminum wheels are flawless and wrapped in tires with plenty of remaining tread. The car’s interior is like new. The parchment leather seats are impeccable, the dash and interior panels are excellent, the carpets show no wear whatsoever and the wood inlays in the dash show no cracking. The black canvas soft top is original and in great shape with a clear rear window and the hardtop is as excellent as well, kept stored since new. The car has its original working Becker Europa II radio as well as working air conditioning, something difficult to find in this era SL.

As we mentioned above, the car has always been well maintained, which is immediately evident upon getting behind the wheel. Far more reliable than the 380SL engine that followed, the torquey 4.5L V8 starts without any smoke, idles consistently and pulls strongly and smoothly through all of the gears. Whether tooling around town, cruising down Highway 1 or bombing down the Autobahn at 120MPH, the car is a joy to drive – smooth, comfortable and, above all else, possessing the tightness and rock-solid stability that Mercedes was known for. The car comes with its original books and manuals, all of the original keys, a folder full of receipts, the original first aid kit and the original tool kit.

If you’ve been looking for a solid, strong running, low mileage R107 bodied SL, this car deserves your serious consideration.
