    Description

Offered for sale is an exceptionally clean, three owner, mechanically strong 1984 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 finished in striking and factory correct Medium Blue (Code 857) over a grey interior. Sold new to a doctor in Idaho, this Cruiser was clearly always garaged and well cared for, its original undercarriage remaining free of any corrosive rust (other than surface) or evidence of rust repair.

The doctor retained the Cruiser until the late 1990s, at which point he gave it to his daughter and her husband, who lived in Palm Desert, CA. They would own and care for the FJ60 for until 2006, at which point it was sold to a retired Navy Captain here in Santa Barbara. While records from the doctor’s tenure of ownership unfortunately do not remain with the car, an extensive file of service receipts from the latter half of his daughter’s tenure and every record from that of the Captain’s are included, and they reveal that more than $22k has been spent over the last fourteen years. That consistent and high level of care has yielded the exceptionally clean, solid and strong driving example offered today.

The Cruiser’s eye-catching Medium Blue finish is in great shape, marred only by the most insignificant of imperfections (a few touched up rock chips, etc.), none of which are significant enough to appear in the photos. The finish cloaks an entirely straight original body that shows no evidence of accidents. All of the rubber is in good condition and all of the glass is original, with the exception of the windshield, which was replaced (along with its gasket) due to a stone chip. The chrome is in good original condition, showing only some pitting typical to well cared for examples. The chrome wheels are original and wrapped in nearly new Michelin Defender tires. The car’s interior is in excellent original condition, the grey cloth seats and interior panels showing only negligible wear, the headliner in good shape and the dash showing only minimal and predictable cracking around the speaker.

The Cruiser is also in great mechanical shape, the original 4.2L I6 engine starting effortlessly, idling consistently and pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the gears. A recent test showed strong and consistent compression across all cylinders and the FJ60’s road manners are great, driving and braking straight and true with excellent ride quality. Aside from standard service and repairs, service has included: new water pump, new fuel pump, new front axel seals, new oil sender, valve and carb adjustments and a new intake and exhaust manifold.

Finding Cruisers in this condition is getting harder and harder as prices continue to rise, a testament to both their vintage appeal and outstanding reliability. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire an exceedingly clean, entirely solid, mechanically strong, well cared for FJ60, finished in a desirable, era-specific livery.
