Offered for sale is a gorgeous, very original, 57k original mile, well cared for 1986 Mercedes-Benz 560SL finished in stunning and desirable Astro Silver over Navy Blue leather with a Navy soft top. The car was sold new to a Mr. John McCormack of Brookfield, WI and the car would be kept in the family until 2007, when it was sold to their CPA and long time family friend. The car made its way out to California in 2010, when it was purchased by a retiree for use at his vacation home in Palm Springs, CA. The car would remain there (although titled in their home state of Washington) until we were able to acquire it earlier this spring.
Throughout the car’s life it always used sparingly, never driven in winter and always stored in a heated garage when not in use. Always properly maintained, the car has never been in any accidents, has never had any paint or body work and is entirely free of rust. It looks and runs more like it’s five or six years years old, rather than thirty-one. The Astro Silver finish is in excellent condition, marred only by negligible imperfections (a few rock chips, etc.), none of which are significant enough to appear in any of the pictures. All of the chrome, rubber and glass is great original shape, as are both the soft and hard tops. The car’s beautifully off-setting Navy Blue interior is equally as clean, the leather seats showing only the minimal wear typical of any 57k mile example, the carpets and interior panels excellent, the dash in great original condition and the hard-top’s headliner entirely perfect. The original wheels are wrapped in Michelin tires with plenty of remaining tread.
The car is as strong mechanically as any 560SL we’ve owned, the engine starting easily, idling consistently and pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the gears. The car drives and brakes straight and true and is extremely comfortable on the road, with a thoroughly modern ride quality. Whether tooling through town, winding through the canyons or bombing down the highway at Autobahn speeds, the car performs without fail. The car comes with a litany of its original fittings including all of the original manuals, the stamped original service booklet, a full size spare tire, toolkit, battery tender, car cover and a clear CARFAX report that documents its low original mileage.
