    Description

Offered for sale is an exceptionally clean, well-maintained and mechanically excellent 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet with only 66k original miles from new. Finished in perpetually attractive Grand Prix White over a White leather interior with Navy Blue carpets and accents, the car is as mechanically sound as it is beautiful, a rare original example that comes with its original owner’s manual and heavily stamped service booklet and a clean CARFAX report documenting the car’s mileage history. If you’re in the market for a 3.2L 911, this beautiful example absolutely deserves your consideration.

Delivered new to its first owner by Braman Porsche Audi in Miami, Florida, the car remained with the original owner in south Florida, serviced by one of two Porsche dealerships until he moved to South Carolina in 1996. He would retain the car until early 2000 (and roughly 58k miles), when he traded it in with on a new 996. The car was then sold to its second owner in Pennsylvania, who put only +/-2,000 miles on the car over a three year period before it was sold to its third owner in 2003. Fresh out of law school when he acquired the car, the third owner would keep it for the ensuing 11 years as he built his legal practice in a suburb of Washington D.C., always keeping it garaged and maintained and accruing a mere +/-6,000 miles while using it as a weekend driver when weather permitted. We acquired the car directly from the third owner earlier this summer.

The care provided throughout its life is evident in the car’s clean cosmetics and strong mechanicals. The finish is excellent, deep and lustrous and marred only by the most negligible of imperfections (a soft ding in a rocker panel, a few rock chips, etc.), none of which are significant enough to appear in the pictures or detract from the car’s considerable appeal. The finish cloaks a body that is straight and free of dents, with excellent panel fits and gaps throughout. All of the glass and rubber is in excellent condition and all of the original color matched Fuchs wheels are in great shape and are wrapped in Dunlop Sport tires with plenty of remaining tread. The car’s undercarriage is completely rust-free, original and untouched, showing only road dust and wear consistent with 66k miles of well-cared-for use.

The car’s interior is also in great shape, the white leather seats and interior panels showing only some creasing and the type of wear typical to 911s of this age and mileage. The dash is free of cracks or warping and it houses a more modern Alpine sound system, although the original Blaupkunkt radio can be easily sourced. The dark blue canvas convertible top and boot cover are both in excellent original condition with a clear rear window and only negligible evidence of wear. Per the options sticker on the inside of the hood, the car left the factory with the following options:

018…………Sport Steering Wheel with Elevated Hub
    158…………Blaupunkt Monterey Radio
    241…………Shorter Shifting Travel
    341…………Central Locking System
348…………Forged Wheels – Grand Prix White
    395…………Light Metal Wheels
    438…………Comfort Seat Right
    454…………Automatic Speed Control
    C02…………Equipped w/ Catalytic Converter

The car is also exceptionally tight and strong mechanically, which isn’t surprising considering the amount of quality care and maintenance it has received. The bulletproof 3.2L engine fires up without any smoke or hesitation, pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the 915 transmission’s gears. Compression is excellent, as is oil pressure, and it’s easy to understand why this era of 911s is one of the most desirable: it beautifully melds efficiency, reliability and performance with a truly visceral, vintage driving feel that is sure to provide anyone behind the wheel a wonderfully grin-inducing experience.

If you’re in the market for a clean and correct 1980s 911 Carrera, there are very few examples that can best this beautiful example. It checks all the right boxes: only 66k documented miles, no evidence of any accidents and a clean CARFAX history report, timeless livery and strong, professionally maintained mechanicals. With the market reflecting continued and rapid appreciation, this is arguably one of the best examples of one of Porsche’s best creations and we know it will provide it’s next owner with the same pride of ownership and motoring enjoyment as it did its prior three.
