    Description

Offered for sale is a striking, completely original, mechanically excellent 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa with only 45k original miles from new. Finished in rare and completely factory original Isis Blue Metallic paint over blue leather, the car is as tight and sound as it is beautiful, a rare original example that comes its books and manuals (including the stamped service booklet), additional service records and clean CARFAX and AutoCheck reports. Whether you’re in the market as a seasoned Porsche collector or just as a weekend enthusiast, this exceptionally original, strong and gorgeous example deserves your serious consideration.

Delivered new by Scholfield Imports, Inc. (the Porsche dealership in Wichita, KS) to its first owner in Memphis, TN, it was lovingly cared for and used sparingly for the ensuing 19 years, until being sold to its second owner, also a Memphis resident, upon the original owner’s passing. The second owner would keep the car until 2011, when he sold it to its third owner, who had been drooling over it for years at their mutual mechanic’s shop in Hot Springs, AR.

Appropriately anal retentive (as most Porsche enthusiasts seem to be), the third owner immediately had a comprehensive, $5k service performed to make sure that everything was mechanically pristine. That service was only 2,000 miles ago, and consequently the car is as strong mechanically as any 1980’s 911 that we’ve ever driven. It has excellent compression across all cylinders, an exceptionally smooth transmission and absolutely no evidence of leaks or other engine issues. We came across the car at a private car club where it was being stored and were incredibly impressed by its originality, performance and fantastic cosmetic condition. We’re sure you’ll feel similarly if you come to inspect the car.

The car’s rare and 100% original Isis Blue finish is exemplary, consistently deep and lustrous and marred only by the most negligible of imperfections (a few rock chips and the like), commensurate with any well-cared-for 45k mile car. The body is entirely straight with factory consistent panel fits and gaps throughout, showing absolutely no evidence of any accidents. The rubber is in excellent condition, as is the targa top, showing virtually no wear on both the exterior and the headliner. The Fuchs wheels are impeccable and wrapped in hardly used Goodyear Eagle GT tires (205/55R16 in the front and 225/50/R16 in the rear). The car’s undercarriage is completely rust-free, original and untouched, a testament to the high level of care provided by its fastidious owners.

The car’s interior is equally as clean, the original blue leather seats showing only nominal wear. The same can said of the carpets and interior panels with door pockets that retain their shape – a common problem on more used examples of this model. The dash is free of cracks or warping and it houses an excellent Kenwood in-dash CD unit, however the original Blaupunkt Reno radio can be easily sourced. The car left the factory with the following options:

    Code          Option Description

    • 018           Steering Wheel with Raised Hub
    • 241           Shortened Shift Lever Travel
    • 288           Headlight Washers
    • 395           Light Metal Wheels – Forged
    • 425           Rear Windshield Wiper
    • 454           Automatic Speed Control

The car’s bulletproof original 3.2L engine fires up without any smoke or hesitation, pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the desirable transmission’s gears. Compression is excellent, as is oil pressure, and it’s easy to understand why this era of 911s is one of the most desirable: it beautifully melds efficiency, reliability and everyday ride quality with a truly visceral, vintage driving feel that is sure to provide anyone behind the wheel a wonderfully grin-inducing experience.

If you’re in the market for a 1980s Carrera, there are very few examples that can best this exceptional 911. It checks all the right boxes: entirely original – including paint, only 45k original miles, rare and desirable color combination, exceptional cosmetics and strong, well-maintained mechanicals. This is arguably one of the best examples of one of Porsche’s best creations and with the market reflecting continued and rapid appreciation, we expect interest to be considerable.
