Offered for sale is a gorgeous, incredibly clean, 29k original mile, one family owned, dealer-serviced 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL finished in ever-tasteful Arctic White over Burgundy leather. The car’s original owner was the General Manager at Tom Ahl Mercedes-Benz in Lima, Ohio, who purchased the car as a gift to himself upon his retirement. During his more than 20 years of ownership he always used it sparingly and in fair weather seasons, kept it garaged and serviced at the dealership. Following his death, his widow hardly used the car but continued to have it maintained periodically until she finally traded it in earlier this year, incidentally to the very General Manager who replaced her husband some 28 years ago, and from whom we acquired the car this summer.
The car looks and runs more like it’s a couple years old rather than twenty-eight. The Arctic White finish is in excellent condition, marred only by the most negligible of imperfections, none of which are significant enough to appear in any of the pictures. All of the chrome, rubber and glass great original shape, as are both the soft and hard tops. The car’s beautifully off-setting Burgundy interior is equally as clean, the leather seats showing virtually only minimal wear typical of any 29k example, the carpets and interior panels excellent, the dash free of cracks or warping and the hard-top’s headliner entirely perfect. The original wheels are wrapped in Michelin tires and the car’s undercarriage is original and rust free. All of the panel fits and gaps are perfect and there’s absolutely no evidence of accidents.
Well maintained by the very dealership where it was sold new by the original owner’s coworkers, the car is in excellent mechanical condition and is entirely turn-key. The engine starts easily, idles smoothly and consistently and pulls strongly and smoothly through each of the gears. The car drives and brakes straight and true and is extremely comfortable with a civilized modern ride quality, whether tooling through town, winding through the canyons or bombing down the highway at Autobahn speeds. The car comes with a litany of its original fittings including the original window sticker, all of the original manuals, the stamped original service booklet, its three original keys, a full size spare tire, toolkit and a clear CARFAX report. The car also comes with an aftermarket CD player and windscreen, both easily removed should that be its new owner’s preference.
