Description
Offered for sale is an absolutely striking, 11,331 mile, one owner, entirely original, heavily optioned, European version 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet finished in beautiful yet ever-menacing Black over Black leather. Ordered new from Porsche as a Netherlands-spec car (Option Code C20) by a wealthy North Carolina businessman, he picked up the car from the factory while vacationing in Europe, drove it to Holland and had it exported back to the U.S. through Pon’s Automobielhandel B.V. in Amersfoot.
Upon receiving the car back in North Carolina, it became one of many in the owner’s significant collection, always garaged and truly treated as a prized weekend driver with very few miles put on it per year. This is documented by the following North Carolina DMV Vehicle Inspection Reports, which are included with the car, along with nearly every annual registration document and the owner’s proof of insurance documents:
1988………………………408 Miles 2003……………………10,334 Miles
1993……………………6,000 Miles 2004……………………10,647 Miles
1995……………………8,119 Miles 2006……………………10,948 Miles
1997……………………8,550 Miles 2007……………………11,053 Miles
1998……………………8,651 Miles 2008……………………11,140 Miles
2000……………………9,585 Miles 2011……………………11,200 Miles
2001……………………9,918 Miles 2013……………………11,318 Miles
2002…………………..10,207 Miles
Having held onto the car for nearly 28 years, the original owner’s advanced age finally caused him to begin to thin his collection, and we were fortunate enough to have been able to acquire the car directly from him earlier this summer.
As one would expect of such a well cared for, original low mileage example, the car is in absolutely stunning condition. The original finish is exceptional and virtually flawless, deep and lustrous and marred only by the odd insignificant rock chip on the hood and front valence. The body is entirely original and straight, free of accidents and retaining factory consistent panel fits and gaps throughout. All of the original glass and rubber is exceptional and the original black canvas top shows virtually no wear, it’s rear plastic window entirely clear. The original Fuchs wheels are also in excellent original condition and are wrapped in Pirelli P6000 tires with plenty of remaining tread. The car’s undercarriage is completely rust-free, original and untouched and the engine block itself still retains much of its factory delivered “Cosmoline” coating, typically burned off on higher mileage cars.
The car’s interior is equally as clean, the Black leather sport seats, original carpets and interior panels showing only nominal wear. The dash is free of cracks or warping and it houses the original European Blaupunkt Toronto radio which still functions beautifully through the car’s original sound system. Both the black canvas boot cover and full tonneau cover are in excellent original condition and according to the options sticker on the inside of the hood and in the owner’s manual, the car left the factory with the following options:
C20…………Netherlands Specification Production Car
018…………Sport Steering Wheel with Elevated Hub
070…………Tonneau Cover – Cabriolet
197…………Higher Amperage Battery
330…………Radio Blaupunkt Toronto SQR 46
341…………Central Locking System
383…………Sport Seat Left
387…………Sport Seat Right
401…………Light Metal Wheels
419…………Rear Luggage Compartment Instead of Rear Seats
454…………Automatic Speed Control
473…………With Front and Rear Spoilers
533…………Alarm System
559…………Air Conditioner (with Front & Rear Condensor)
567…………Windshield Green Graduated Tint
The car is also exceptionally tight and strong mechanically. The bulletproof 3.2L engine fires up without any smoke or hesitation, pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the desirable G50 transmission’s gears. Compression is excellent, as is oil pressure, and it’s easy to understand why this era of 911s is one of the most desirable: it beautifully melds efficiency, reliability and everyday ride quality with a truly visceral, vintage driving feel that is sure to provide anyone behind the wheel a wonderfully grin-inducing experience.
As mentioned above, the car is extremely well documented with North Carolina registration documents, annual vehicle inspection documents and annual insurance documents. The car also comes with its original owner’s manual, service manual, service center booklet, Blaupunkt radio manual and warranty information, the original booklet and manual cover, ALL of the original keys, the original touch up paint tube (never used), both the original full tonneau cover and boot cover (and their pouches), the original space-saver spare tire (never used), the original air compressor with instructions (never used), the original Porsche tire pressure gauge and case (never used), the original plastic tire changing mits (still in their plastic cover), the original plastic bag that houses the three above items, and even an original matchbook supplied by the factory (also never used) when the owner picked up the car. That said, we do want to stress that the car was never smoked in. Lastly, the car also retains its original Netherlands license plate from the owner’s original vacation to take delivery of the car.
Whether the seasoned Porsche collector or just a weekend enthusiast, you’re no doubt aware of the nearly meteoric appreciation that the desirable models have experienced over the last few years. 3.2L Carreras are certainly one of those models, and there is likely no better original example available outside of the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. If you’re in the market for a truly investment grade, collector quality 911 Carrera, this incredible example certainly deserves your consideration.
