    Description

Offered for sale is a stunning, exceptionally clean, well maintained and mechanically excellent 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet with only 43k documented original miles from new. Finished in iconic Guards Red over a Black leather interior, the car is as mechanically sound as it is beautiful, a rare original example that comes with every single book and manual (including the stamped service booklet), a clean CARFAX report documenting the car’s mileage history, every single spare key and both a boot cover and full tonneau cover. Whether you’re in the market as a seasoned Porsche collector or just as a weekend enthusiast, this exceptional G50 transmission example absolutely deserves your consideration.

Delivered new to its first owner by Haywood-Clarke Porsche Audi in Midlothian, VA, it was barely broken in before making its way west to San Diego, CA in 1990 with its original owner. He would retain the car until 1995 and 21k miles, at which point it was sold to a business associate up the coast in Long Beach, CA. The second owner had a majority of the car’s service performed at Circle Imports, the local Porsche dealership, before eventually selling the car in 2002 and 29k miles to a buyer in Orange County, CA. Continuing the track record of fastidious care and sparing use that the car’s previous two owners had provided, the third owner always serviced the Carrera at McKenna Porsche Audi (the Porsche dealership in Norwalk, CA) and accrued a mere 14k miles in his 12 years ownership before we were able to acquire the car earlier this summer.

The car’s finish is excellent, deep and lustrous and marred only by the most negligible of imperfections (a few rock chips and the like), none of which are significant enough to appear in the pictures or detract from the car’s considerable appeal. The lascivious and era-defining Guards Red finish cloaks a body that is straight and free of dents, with excellent panel fits and gaps throughout. All of the glass and rubber is in excellent condition, the original black soft top shows virtually no wear, and neither do any of the 16×7 and 16×8 wheels, which are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires with plenty of remaining tread. The car’s undercarriage is completely rust-free, original and untouched, showing only road dust consistent with 43k miles of well-cared-for use.

The car’s interior is equally as clean, the Black leather partial power seats showing only nominal wear. The same can said of the original carpets and interior panels and the door pockets retain their shape – a common problem on more used examples of this model. The dash is free of cracks or warping and it houses the original Blaupunkt Reno radio which still functions beautifully through the car’s original sound system. Both the boot cover and full tonneau cover are in excellent original condition and, speaking of which, according to the options sticker on the inside of the hood, the car left the factory with the following options:

    070…………Tonneau Cover for Cabriolet
    158…………Blaupunkt Reno Radio
    341…………Central Locking System
    454…………Automatic Speed Control
    533…………Alarm System
    C02…………Equipped w/ Catalytic Converter

The car is also exceptionally tight and strong mechanically, which isn’t surprising considering the amount and quality of care and maintenance it has received. The bulletproof 3.2L engine fires up without any smoke or hesitation, pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the desirable G50 transmission’s gears. Compression is excellent, as is oil pressure, and it’s easy to understand why this era of 911s is one of the most desirable: it beautifully melds efficiency, reliability and everyday ride quality with a truly visceral, vintage driving feel that is sure to provide anyone behind the wheel a wonderfully grin-inducing experience.

If you’re in the market for a late ‘80s G50 transmission 911, there are very few examples that can best this exceptional Carrera. It checks all the right boxes: only 43k documentable miles, clean Southern California history, iconic and desirable livery, exceptional cosmetics and strong, dealer maintained mechanicals. With the market reflecting continued and rapid appreciation, this is arguably one of the best examples of one of Porsche’s best creations and we expect interest to be considerable.
