    Description

Offered for sale is gorgeous, exceptionally clean, mechanically strong 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet (993) 6-speed with only 65k original miles and finished in timeless Guards Red over a Cashmere Tan interior. The original owner was from West Palm Beach, FL, where the car was always garaged, serviced by Braman Porsche (the local dealership) and driven sparingly, accumulating 37k miles in nearly ten years of ownership before the car was sold to it’s second owner in Atlanta, GA. The second owner continued the first owner’s careful use, servicing the car at Jim Ellis Porsche of Atlanta and accruing an additional 10k miles before trading the car in 2010. The car found its way to Porsche of Santa Barbara through the Porsche dealer network, where the third owner acquired it in 2011 with 47k miles on the clock.

The car has been here in Santa Barbara ever since, always garaged and used as a weekend driver and always serviced either by the dealership or by Schneider Autohaus, an extremely well regarded independent shop open since 1970 and specializing in air-cooled 911s. In his six years of ownership, the third owner spent more than $13k in routine maintenance making sure the car was always in excellent mechanical condition. Recent service items of note include (but are not limited to) an entirely new clutch assembly (at 58k miles), new front strut assemblies, new rear shock absorbers, new front control arm bushings, new camshaft/power steering pump drive seals and a new power steering pump drive belt.

The result of the car’s consistent, high level of maintenance throughout its more than 20 years of service is a 993 that starts effortlessly, idles smoothly, pulls strongly and smoothly through each of the gears and tracks, brakes and handles without fault. The car is a joy to drive, particularly when tearing through the canyons, but also bombing down the highway or just tooling around town. Smooth, powerful, agile and wonderfully predictable, it’s easy to understand why Porsche enthusiasts so revere the 993 – it’s of course the last air-cooled 911, but it’s also the last 911 with real soul, providing a grin-inducing and visceral driving experience while remaining comfortable and modern enough to use as a daily driver. Lastly, the power seats, power windows, power top, radio/CD player and air conditioning all function as they should.

The car is also exceptionally clean mechanically, the Guards Red finish deep, glossy and marred only by minor imperfections that are negligible enough to be difficult to see in any of the photos. The body is straight and free of any evidence of accidents, retaining factory correct panel fits and gaps throughout. All of the glass is in excellent original condition, as are the original wheels, which are wrapped in tires with plenty of remaining tread. The car’s interior is equally as clean, the Cashmere leather seats showing only wear typical of a well cared for, 65k mile example, the carpets and interior panels flawless and the dash housing the original radio/CD player. The car’s soft top is original and does show some conventional wear, but, having owned and sold dozens of 993s, we know it has plenty of remaining life and remains entirely water and wind tight.

The car also comes with its original boot cover (in excellent condition), wind deflector, original window sticker, all original books and manuals, two original keys (with factory remote alarm fobs), its original tool kit, air compressor, space-saver spare and changing tools. It has an entirely clean CARFAX report, which can of course be forwarded to serious buyers upon request. Per the window and options stickers, the car was equipped with the following options from the factory:

    • AM/FM Radio with CD Player
    • Torque Limited Slip with ABD
    • Power Seat Package
    • Metal Door Sills with Insignia
    • 17” Wheels w/ Cup Design Rims
    • Rim Caps with Porsche Crest
    • Porsche Windstop Deflector

The 993 market has remained strong following years of steady appreciation and this gorgeous example is being offered at a fair, market appropriate price point, making this an excellent opportunity to acquire a gorgeous, low mileage, well cared for, mechanically strong, very clean example of one of Zuffenhausen’s finest creations.
