Offered for sale is a gorgeous, final year 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo (993) finished in desirable Speed Yellow over Black Leather with 116k original miles. The car’s current owner of 15+ years is a devout Porsche-phile and a former Porsche mechanic at Vasek Polak Porsche, the dealership in Hermosa Beach, CA. Operating under the opinion that the 993 Turbo is arguably the finest road going sports car Porsche ever produced, he ensured that the car was always driven regularly and well maintained, something of a rarity for 993 Turbos.
He also made a few tasteful upgrades to the car, including Wheel Dynamics 18” OS Design II Fuchs style wheels, a Fabspeed exhaust system, upgraded turbos (which are activated at lower boost), an Andial racing clutch, a BlownSix AFR/Boost/Engine Data gauge, a GT2 rear wing and an ECU that allows the vaunted 3.6L Twin Turbo engine to produce what the owner believes is more than 500hp (although it has not been dynoed). That being said, many of the car’s original components (original Turbo spoiler, factory exhaust system, clock, etc.) are available, should its next owner prefer to return the car to a more stock appearance. A set of flawless Porsche OEM 996 Turbo Twist wheels are also available.
Despite its consistent use, the car remains in gorgeous aesthetic condition, the striking Speed Yellow finish marred only by minor imperfections, none of which are significant enough to appear in the photographs. The car has never been in any accidents and retains consistent panel fits and gaps. Some of the photographs were taken prior to the hood being adjusted slightly, however we can now confirm that that panel fit is factory correct too. The menacing Fuchs wheels show some minor curb rash, however the set of OEM 996 Turbo Twist wheels are flawless. The car’s interior is also in excellent shape, the seats showing only minimal wear to the leather, the carpets in clean original condition, the headliner flawless and the dash free of any cracking or warping. An aftermarket amplifier was installed by the original owner, however the current owner disconnected it, the sound now coming from stock speakers and a Nakamichi in-dash CD/Radio/Auxiliary unit.
Having been driven consistently by an ex-Porsche mechanic for the last 15 years and serviced at Santa Barbara’s best Porsche mechanic (Schneider Autohaus), the car is unsurprisingly in excellent mechanical condition. Starting right up without any hesitation, the 3.6L Twin Turbo engine emits an awesome growl from the Fabspeed exhaust system, a system that’s apparently nearly 200 lbs. lighter than the factory system. Upon acceleration, that growl quickly turns into a throaty scream, heralding a seriously fast super car to anyone within earshot. The experience from behind the wheel is truly grin inducing, the car feeling tight, balanced and precise, and somehow the power is always surprising. The car runs and drives straight and true, the brakes are incredibly responsive, and despite its radical styling, the car is actually quite civil on the highway, without giving away any of that visceral Porsche ride quality that’s made 993s the cream of the crop for Porsche enthusiasts.
This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a gorgeous, intelligently modified, mechanically excellent 993 Turbo in a desirable color combination and at a reasonable price. Yes, the mileage is higher than many of the other examples on the market, but unlike so many of those cars, this one has been properly looked after throughout its life and under the watchful eye of a former Porsche tech, rather than sitting dormant in a collection somewhere. If you actually want to enjoy one of the most amazing sports cars in existence, there is no better example on the market at no better price.
