    Description

Offered for sale is an absolutely stunning, completely original, extremely well documented, collector quality showroom flawless 2002 Jaguar XKR Coupe with just 9,590 original miles and finished in gorgeous, uncommon and desirable Aspen Green Metallic over a Cashmere leather interior.

Sold new by Gaudin Jaguar Porsche Las Vegas at a sticker price of $81,975 (which would be more than $115k in today’s dollars) to the original owner of Bullhead City, AZ, the car was always used sparingly, always extremely well maintained and stored in a temperature controlled garage when not in use. The original owner retained the car until the end of 2016 and roughly 8,500 miles, at which point it was traded for another car at a classic car dealership in Santa Monica, CA. It was subsequently sold to a Canadian collector outside of Vancouver, British Columbia, where it joined the ranks of multiple vintage sports and modern exotic cars for roughly two years and +/- 900 miles before we acquired the car earlier this summer. It is worth noting that the second owner also ensured it was driven sparingly, well maintained and stored in a temperature-controlled garage with no exposure to bad weather, accidents or any negative mechanical situations whatsoever.

The result of this caring ownership is arguably the finest North American XKR coupe remaining, certainly that we’ve ever seen – virtually showroom flawless in every single possible way. The first generation XKR – especially the relatively scarcely imported and, at least in our opinion, much more appealing coupe version – is quickly becoming a modern classic, with values jumping dramatically over the past couple of years. A 2002 3k miles example originally owned by author Jackie Collins sold in August on Bring a Trailer for $40,077 (which doesn’t account for the +/-$2k buyer’s commission), and the extensive photographs in that auction provided the significant impression that despite its lower miles, that example wasn’t quite as showroom immaculate as this example and was finished in a far less desirable livery.

The rare and entirely original Aspen Green Metallic finish is flawless, wrapping an accident-free and completely straight original body with factory consistent panel fits and gaps throughout. In terms of cosmetic imperfections, they are limited to two small scuffs of the driver side window surround trim (photos included), with no other noticeable dents, rock chips, scratches, etc. All of the brightwork, rubber and glass are in excellent original condition, the undercarriage is entirely rust-free and original and the original 18” XKR alloy wheels are flawless and wrapped in Michelin Pilot tires installed in July of 2017 and that bear less than 1k miles of wear.

The car’s interior is equally as clean, the Cashmere leather seats showing no discernible wear and the carpets, interior panels, headliner and wood dash and trim pieces all impeccable. The only noteworthy wear would be the mild loosening of the leather on the central armrest/storage compartment lid, and while it could be easily and inexpensively brought back to new by any half-decent upholsterer, it hardly detracts from the car’s condition and keeping everything 100% original seems like a better decision for at the very least the time being. To summarize the car’s cosmetic condition, it would be almost impossible to find a more flawless original example – this is likely is as close to showroom new as a first generation XKR remains, ideal for collector or just an XKR enthusiast looking for an amazing daily driver.

While its sparing use and corresponding low mileage have triggered awfully few needed mechanical services, the car comes with all of its original documentation and copies of its service are included in the 90+ photographs available on our website or in an online photo album that will be upon request. Always well maintained, the car is in turn key mechanical condition, the 4.0L Supercharged engine starting effortlessly, pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the gears and thoroughly grin-inducing when asked to perform. The XKR is one of those rare Grand Touring sports cars that is all-at-once an incredibly comfortable in-town driver and highway cruiser, as well as an incredible performance car. When pushing the car to its limits, it consistently surprises the driver by revealing that those limits are far broader than one would expect, the supercharged V8 incredibly punchy and the handling providing an amazing amount of traction even under high speed and RPMs while winding through the canyons.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire an absolutely gorgeous, collection-worthy, mechanically strong and well documented modern classic, finished in a desirable livery and appreciating daily due to its rareness, fantastic performance and indisputably exceptional design.
