    Description

Offered for sale is a remarkably original, rust-free, numbers matching California black plate 1958 MG MGA Roadster. Evidenced by its extraordinary condition, this car has always been lovingly cared for, garaged and maintained to ensure that it never fell into dereliction. Since the late 1960s, the car has always been used sparingly as a weekend driver and judging from the minimal amount of mechanical and cosmetic wear, we believe the 76,189 miles showing on the odometer to be original.

As the pictures show, the car presents extremely well. Finished in timeless Orient Red over Black Leather Seats, this is by no means a Concours quality show car; it’s an extremely original California survivor with the perfect amount of patina to exhibit its 54 years of trusty service. While the paint has minor flaws here and there and the finish is older, the car polishes up nicely with a straight body and excellent panel fits and gaps. We can see no clear evidence of any accidents and undercarriage is completely original and free of rust or signs of rust repair. All of the chrome and glass are in great original condition, as are the knock off wire wheels wrapped in white wall tires with plenty of remaining tread. The interior is as clean as the car’s exterior, the leather seats showing hardly any wear whatsoever and the carpeting and interior panels in good original condition. The soft top is free of any rips, tears or discoloration and it goes up and down as it should, however the plastic windows have fogged and ought to be replaced if you intend to use the car with the top up. The car also retains its original full tonneau cover.

Mechanically the car is in great shape, its original 1500 engine starting easily, idling consistently and pulling strongly through all of the gears. The transmission shifts cleanly and the car drives and brakes straight. We recently took the car for a 200-mile jaunt down the coast to Los Angeles for a car show and it performed beautifully the whole way with no signs of overheating (even in LA traffic). The carburetors are functioning properly and compression is strong over all cylinders.

The car comes with its original spare wire wheel, crank kit, two tool kits (including the original), knock off hammer, jack, the original MGA Owner’s Manual, MGA Workshop Manual, tons of other MGA Literature, a file of service documentation and a original dealer optioned wooden rear luggage rack for the trunk.
