Offered for sale is an extremely original, exceedingly clean 52k mile 1987 Porsche 928 S4 finished in gorgeous Marine Blue Metallic over Linen Leather. Sold new by Paul Miller Porsche in Parsippany, New Jersey in October 1987, the car would stay with its original owner until 2010. The second owner had it mechanically sorted, then sold it a few months later to the third owner, from whom we acquired the car last Fall with 52k miles.
Power comes from the stock 5.0L V8 paired to an automatic transmission, which received a new timing belt at 51k miles. Factory options include platinum anodized wheels, protective side moldings, a Hi-Fi sound system with amplifier, dual power/heated front seats with lumbar support, and a sunroof. The car comes with records since 2010, factory books and a clean Carfax report.
The Marine Blue Metallic finish remains in great condition and remains largely original, the only paint work having been performed from new being a front bumper was professionally resprayed at some point. While the pictures show that it clearly presents beautifully, the car is not without minor imperfections – a small driver’s door ding above the key hole, a handful of touched-up paint chips, and a few smaller scratches. The factory protective side moldings remain affixed.
The 928 S4 received a fixed rear spoiler and rear windscreen wiper, as well as stock 16″ wheels which were professionally refinished approximately 200 miles ago and are wrapped in tires with plenty of remaining tread. The rear hatch contains a factory toolkit and spare tire assembly.
Inside, the Linen leather upholstery shows typical minor wear on the driver’s side outer bolster and the dash does exhibit a few hairline cracks, noticeably around the upper defroster vents – extremely common to nearly all 928 S4s. Features include an A/C system and power rear hatch, windows, seats, and sunroof, as which function correctly. A Kenwood cassette head unit is currently fitted.
The timing belt was replaced by The Poorsche Gruppe in New Jersey at 51,207 miles, and the DME (engine control computer) and climate control unit were also both rebuilt relatively recently. The car starts without fail, idles consistently and pulls strongly and smoothly through each of the gears. It’s a pleasure to drive and, if maintained correctly, will undoubtedly provide another 30+ years of grin-inducing fun for its next owner.
