    Description

Offered for sale is a stunning, numbers matching 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL with a rare 4-speed manual gearbox. The car is finished in rare and beautiful factory blue paint (DB 903H) over navy leather seats (not mb tex) and a navy soft top. The car has been very well cared for and maintained throughout the years which is evident in the its gorgeous condition and originality.

The exterior is in wonderful condition. The body is straight and the gaps are correct. The paint is in great shape, retaining depth and luster, and only showing the most minor of imperfections. The original spot welds are evident inside each front fender, indicating that they are both original to the car. The factory hardtop and German canvas soft top are in very good condition. The chrome is in very nice shape, showing only one very soft ding on the drivers side of the front bumper that’s even difficult to see in the photographs – certainly not a detractor to the car. The interior is beautiful. The correct leather seats with factory headrests are in excellent condition.  The dash wood is very nice. Everything works correctly on the car, including its original Becker Europa radio and, somewhat rarely, the lights behind the defrost control arms. I have tried to show the car’s beautiful condition through the photographs but it really comes alive when shown in person. Every outing in this Pagoda seems to turn heads, and without fail I get many waves and thumbs up!

The mechanical condition of the vehicle is superb. There is never hesitation when starting up, no smoke and a very smooth idle. I would have to say that after driving dozens of 280SL’s over the years, this has to be one of the best and strongest running engines. The spectacular 4-speed gear box adds a lot of kick and sportiness to the ride. The compression is excellent and the transmission is very smooth and solid.
