Offered for sale is an exceptionally clean, 63k original mile 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet finished in timeless Grand Prix White over Black leather. The car is as mechanically sound as it is beautiful, a strong original example that comes with its original owner’s manual, heavily stamped service booklet and a clean CARFAX report documenting the car’s mileage and history. Delivered new to a Mr. Bart Faber by Lee Klinger Porsche Audi in Highland Park, Illinois, the car remained with the original owner, serviced by one of two Porsche dealerships in the Chicago area until 2001, when he moved to Phoenix, Arizona, bringing the car with him. He subsequently sold it later that year with 46k miles to an Arizona business associate. The second owner would retain the car until early 2008 when it was sold to its third and most recent owner in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Like its previous owners, the third owner always used the car sparingly, only in fair weather months and always kept it well maintained. We acquired the car directly from the third owner earlier this summer.
The care provided throughout its life is evident in the car’s clean cosmetics and strong mechanicals. The finish is excellent, deep and lustrous and marred only by the most negligible of imperfections, none of which are significant enough to appear in the pictures or detract from the car’s considerable appeal. The finish cloaks a straight body with excellent factory panel fits and gaps throughout. All of the glass and rubber is in excellent condition and all of the original Fuchs wheels are in great shape, wrapped in BF Goodrich tires with plenty of remaining tread. The car’s undercarriage is completely rust-free, original and untouched, showing only road dust and wear consistent with 63k miles of well-cared-for use.
The car’s interior is also in great shape, the black leather seats and interior panels showing only minimal wear. The dash is free of cracks or warping and it houses a more modern Alpine sound system, although the original Blaupkunkt radio can be easily sourced. The black canvas convertible top is brand new and the car comes with its original boot cover, which is still in great shape.
The car is also exceptionally tight and strong mechanically, the bulletproof 3.2L engine starting easily without any smoke or hesitation and pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the 915 transmission’s gears. Compression is excellent, as is oil pressure, and it’s easy to understand why this era of 911s is one of the most desirable: it beautifully melds efficiency, reliability and performance with a truly visceral, vintage driving feel that is sure to provide anyone behind the wheel a wonderfully grin-inducing experience.
