    Description

Offered for sale is a beautiful, rust free, two Texas owner example of the timelessly sophisticated and elegant Mercedes-Benz 250SE Cabriolet (W111). Finished in an understated and correct Tobacco Brown (Paint Code: DB423) over tan leather, the car set and maintains the benchmark for luxury four seat convertibles. In my opinion, the excess of a Rolls-Royce Corniche makes this much more desirable and I can’t think of another car that is all at once so graciously tasteful while opulently exclusive. That fact, coupled with relatively low production numbers has made W111 Cabriolets significant investment grade collector cars with consummately high sales prices. This car, however, will be sold reasonably and represents an excellent opportunity at acquiring an honest, rust-free weekend driver that is sure to appreciate.

As the pictures show, the car is very presentable, marred only by minor body and paint flaws that have appeared over the 30+ years the prior owner drove the car. The panel fit is great and the car shows no evidence of accidents. The chrome is in great shape, its only flaws being mild patina on a few of the accent pieces. The soft top has no tears and the wheels and hubs are in very good condition and wrapped in white wall tires with plenty of remaining tread. The interior is equally clean. The leather seats are in excellent original condition, free of tears, cracking or significant wear. The interior panels and dash are flawless and the original carpets present nicely. The dash wood presents well considering its age (but would need be re-finished if you were going to make the car a show car), the tonneau cover is like new and the car comes with its original manual and a thick stack of service invoices dating back to the late 1970s, when the second owner purchased the car.

Mechanically the car is also excellent, starting easily without any smoke or hesitation, its matching numbers inline six engine pulling strongly and smoothly through all of the gears. The car has always been properly maintained and garaged and was never exposed to the elements. As such, the original undercarriage is fantastic, free of rust or evidence of rust repair. The car is an absolute joy to drive, smooth, stable and consistent, ideal for both weekend cruises around town and highway driving. I’d not hesitate to take this car on any long distance jaunt.

This is an infrequent opportunity to acquire a rare and beautiful example of a 250SE Cabriolet with everything important going for it: long, careful ownership history, mechanically solid, rust free and finished in a tasteful color combination.
